Jonah

Jonah's being swallowed by the great fish.

Jonah

Jonah appears as a quite reluctant prophet. When God first called him to go to Nineveh, he refused, attempting to flee to Tarshish.   While on his way to Tarshish, Jonah discovers that God truly intends for him to go to Nineveh when the Lord sends a great storm upon the sea.   After the sailors realize Jonah is the cause of the storm, he is thrown overboard where he is swallowed by a great fish prepared by God.   After being vomited up on the shore, Jonah goes to Nineveh. Disappointing for the prophet, the Assyrians repent of their sin and God relents of his intended judgment.   Although Jonah is not the epitome of obedience, his experience teaches the modern church must about the way God cares for all the world.
